We met on my property in Jackson, Michigan. Just the two of us and my Nikon in hand. A short two-minute walk down a trail I’ve come to know like the back of my hand led us to a spot I’d been saving. A quiet, cleared path where deer often nestle into the grass and the birds sing just before sundown. That night, they did.

The sunshine was dwindling into that warm, golden haze that only lasts for a few perfect minutes. Her red hair caught it like fire. The woods wrapped around us in green. It was calm, still, and magic.

She’s a dancer, so movement came naturally—like molasses, slow and deliberate, melting into the moment. I gave her direction, but her body already knew. Her outfit? Just a piece of white fabric from her own closet. Nothing fussy, nothing overthought. It hugged her bump and legs with ease. It let her be.

This wasn’t about styling or perfection. This was about capturing the divine in the rawest way. The way the light loved her. The way her body softened and held strength all at once. The way she’s evolving into something even more powerful: a mother.

My creativity had no limits that night. And neither did she.
