First of all, what inspires you? Music is my inspiration. I’m a big 90s fan. I have my own playlist that I jam out to in the car. Today’s session was dreamt up from a Norah Jones’ song. I’ll let you be the judge of which song..
Start writing or Drawing all your ideas! Pinterest, notebooks, whatever you use.. just idea dump onto it. I’ll draw pictures, write lyrics, poses, feelings you want to convey.
When I think Norah Jones — I think rainy romance. Big feelings.
It was important to convey the mood through the imagery. I checked the weather for the week and decided 7pm dull and rainy would be ideal.
Now, it’s time to pick out the wardrobe. Since my model has a raw edgy look it was important I played off of it. We chose a see through bra from Playful Promises and underwear from Honey Birdette. The boots and jacket were from her closet or goodwill. You can easily source pieces from your own closet.
Plan your poses! Create the set early. Focus on your lighting and maximize your shots per pose. Remember, go back to your song. Listen to it. What do you feel as you hear it?
For Norah Jones — I felt reflection, mystery, desperation, honesty, and new beginnings.
